1800 years old an ancient Sanskrit Theatre tradition of India, Koodiyaattam.
Nangiarkoothu is an offshoot of Koodiyaattam which is 1200 years old. Nangiarkoothu is the traditional name of the koothu performance by a female member (Nangiar) of the Chakkiar community. It is an mime performance enacted by a women on the legends of Lord Krishna. Verses are sung and executed through mime and dance. Gestures and Facial expressions which have their origin in Natyasastra, the treatise on theatre, written by Sage Bharatha in the 2nd century BC.
The artist performing are Usha Nangiar, VKK Hariharan, and Kalanilayam Unnikrishnan well known for their best performance in the play NangyarKoothu. Usha Nangiar will present the character Ahalya from Ramayana.
